The fabric was identified as the royal fabric or the fabric that was in "front." In the Akan culture, the term Kente related to the word "Kenten" which means basket. The Asante uses the Kente as a ceremonial fabric which is hand or machine woven.

The fabric come in various colors, sizes and designs and are worn during very important social and religious occasions.
